We have passed a hugely significant milestone during April 2018 with the achievement of SIA Ecodesign Ready certification of our entire solid fuel stove range, more than 3.5 years ahead of the mandate.

In fact even earlier during March we ceased manufacturing non-Ecodesign Ready appliances, in preparation for the launch of the brand new, re-engineered Fireline stove models, due for launch in June 2018.

“Although way back in 2012 DEFRA exemption was the only real benchmark for new UK stoves, we could already see the writing was on the wall for conventional wood stoves.”

explains our Managing Director, Peter Mintoft, pictured left.

“We took a conscious decision at that point not to introduce any more new fireboxes that could not achieve Ecodesign performance, and we spent a huge amount of time and effort developing new concepts, to perfect appliances that would outperform the regulations being implemented for 2022. Patents for new innovations were duly filed and the popular Purevision range passed Ecodesign efficiency and combustion requirements first time of asking during 2013, and began to be marketed during 2014, nearly 8 years early. We are proud of our achievements and still today publish full independent emissions test results from Kiwa Gastec in our brochures for all to see.

We have steadily added to the range and launched new SIA Ecodesign Ready products regularly ever since to build up a broad portfolio of high quality solid fuel stoves catering for almost every need. The final pieces of the 100% Ecodesign Ready jigsaw are now being fitted with the upcoming launch of our Ecodesign versions of the perennial all-rounders in our FX and FP range. We are even adding newly styled FQ 5kW Wide and 8kW models to the range to bring it right up to date. It is now well known that Ecodesign requirements apply to wood burning but less widely understood that mineral fuel burning appliances will also need to meet exactly the same efficiency and emissions figures for 2022.”

Peter continues:

“That’s no problem at all for us or our customers because all Go-Eco, Fireline and Purevision multifuel burners are already certified for both fuel types. We were amongst the first to understand this, and develop our fireboxes to perform to the right levels across the board.”

The company underlines that it continuously strives for product improvement across its various disciplines as Peter elaborates further:

“C&J have always put R&D front and centre of our drive for growth. Being so seriously committed to the domestic secondary heating market, investing the wherewithal in high performance product development and new firebox technology is not a difficult decision for the group. The three main fuels – gas, solid fuel and electricity are covered by technical teams that are expert in their field paired with highly experienced fireplace designers producing stone and wood fireplaces and suites – including one-off limestone specials made to measure.

We engage energetically in the SIA and HHIC trade associations to make sure that we are always at the forefront of developments in our markets and our customers know we will deliver technically competent complete fireplace packages, cost effectively and at the right time.”
