Screen Shot 2015-09-10 at 14.01.59Gas Safety Week is an initiative from Gas Safe Register and is designed to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause explosions, gas lakes, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Gas Safety Week started in 2011, and runs around mid to end of September, the time of the year when people start to use their gas appliances much more, especially gas fires,  which may have not been used for a number of months.

Over the years, Gas Safety Week has introduced some great initiatives, here is a look back over the years, and what has been achieved.

Gas Safety Week 2015 – Over 128 million people were reached during this Gas Safety week, with over 80 million through the press, and 45 million plus on social media. 2015 was a landmark with 5,123 pledges of support logged. During this week, Gas Safety Week gained an additional 800 followers on Twitter. Visits to the Gas Safe Register website was up 13% compared to last year.

Gas Safety Week 2014 – During Gas Safe Week in 2014 over 180,000 people visited their website, and over 21 million were exposed to the messaging on Twitter alone. The total communication reached 125.6 million people through a mix of online and offline communications. A total of 4,321 pledges of support were logged. A new and much improved gas map was also launched in this safety week too.

Gas Safety Week 2013
– 73 pieces of content were distributed nationally in media sources like The Sun, The Mirror and BBC Radio 2. In this year the website saw a 33% increase in web traffic, and over 3,800 contributors sent out over 8,000 tweets  using #GSW13. A new logo and online materials this year were created this year.

Gas Safety Week 2012
– Over 140 million people were reach this year, with 10,000 pledges of support. Over 1.3 million leaflets were distributed. 22 million people were reached though 10 national newspaper adverts alone.

Gas Safety Week 2011
– This was the first year of Gas Safety Week, which generated over 1,000 pledges of support. Over 593,000 leaflets and 14,000 posters were distributed, along with 470 press kits. 2011 was the first year for Gas Safety Week. Each subsequent year the word of mouth and awareness has increased, and no doubt lives have been saved in the process.
