Gas Safe Register,  is the official list of gas engineers who are registered to work safely and legally on boilers, cookers, fires and all other gas appliances. By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in 2009.

Screen Shot 2016-07-25 at 12.50.57Gas Safe Register have recently launched a new public safety campaign called Trust The Triangle.

The purpose of this campaign is to remind the public that the ONLY sign of a trustworthy gas engineer is that they are registered with Gas Safe, and that they have a valid Gas Safe ID card, which has the triangle logo.

In the right hands, gas appliances are safe when being worked on. But in the wrong hands they can be deadly – don’t risk you and your families life by not using a Gas Safer Registered fitter.

Gas engineers are the “most trusted of all tradespeople” according to a recent research project carried out by Gas Safe Register. The research also found out that people are far too trusting of tradesmen and tend to hire people based on appearance and behaviour rather than qualifications and skills. It is vital that you always check their Gas Safe ID, make sure it is in date and that they are qualified for the type of work they are undertaking, which can be seen on the reverse of the card.

The video below outlines in more details what you should be looking for on an ID card:

Alarming Statistics:

  • Illegal fitters putting householders at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning;
  • 1 in 5 gas appliances deemed so dangerous that it had to be disconnected immediately
  • 16% would trust an engineer if they said they were registered, rather than check ID card.

If you know someone is working illegally you can report them on 0800 408 5577.
