fullsizerenderAccording to some sources, the trees in the UK could be under threat from diseases and pests entering the country. A significant threat is the Agrilus Planipennis, or the Emerald Ash Borer, as it is more commonly known. It is a green jewel beetle, which originates from eastern Asia and generally feeds on ash species.

It is suggested that this beetle, and other pests, could enter the country with log deliveries. People who buy their fire wood and logs online, simply are not always aware where their wood is being sourced from. These pests are posing a significant threat to woodland all over the world currently.

The Emerald Ash Borer has already caused devastation in woodlands across America and Europe. Simply by buying logs online, that are sourced outside of the UK, you may be increasing the chances of introducing these pests into our woodlands – with potentially disastrous results.

Foreign pests and bugs very quickly multiply, and spread – causing additional mayhem. With no real immunity, trees in this country can quickly be killed off by these invaders.

To help guard against the potential threat of foreign bugs entering the UK, ensure that you buy British. Buying British means you can be confident that you will not be unintentionally bringing in foreign pests, which may cause terrible problems with our sustainable, beautiful woodlands.

Despite additional checks by border controls, it is simply not possible to check each and every pallet of logs, which may come though customs.

Wood is a highly sustainable and environmentally friendly fuel, but we all must be aware of these potential threats, and do our bit to ensure a safe habitat for our trees to grow and prosper.
